you have probably found a store that only carries a few brands, but here is what to look for. look at the efficiency/sensitivity rating (means the same thing) it tells you how efficiently speakers converts power into sound. It is measured in dB's, the higher rating, the louder the speakers will play without distorting, so if you want bass at fairly high levels the higher the number the better. a good number is around 90-92 and up. again, components are the best option for this. in this price range you will find many options, check out the material its made from, silk dome tweeters are very basic, and a rubber surround on the woofer is also important. a few good brands will include, but are not limited to (in no particular order): Alpine (Type s and x)
